We had another night of restless sleep and early awakening. Hopefully we'll get over this jet lag today. Today our friends Wouter and Goedele came over from Antwerp to meet us. We went into Bruges and had a coffee near the main square. Then it was a stroll around for a while before heading to the restaurant for lunch. Wouter selected Laissez Faire based on the Michelin reviews and it turned out to be the best meal we've had in years. The weather was fabulous so we ate in the yard in back. I couldn't begin to describe the different tiny appetizers that came before the starter and entree but they were all something out of a gourmet restaurant magazine or TV show. The main course was pigeon, which was amazingly good. It was a little like duck, but lighter. All in all, a wonderful time catching up with friends we've known since we lived in Brussels in 1977 but hadn't seen in 12 years.
At dinner we were joined by a new couple, Rick and Suzie from England. Apparently they open this dining room to open seating around 7:00 pm so we've had 2 "transient" couples also, but it seems that we have a core of 6 fixed seating now including Ray and Maureen, all very nice and it looks like we will have fun and lively dinners.
The show was a sixties reprisal band called the Revolvers, who put on a good show and had many in the audience dancing in the aisles.
The more we get familiar with this ship, the better we like it. Our favorite bar is the Martini Bar and Crush. It has a thin layer of crushed ice along the top of the bar which is fun and keeps your drink cold. One of the bartenders, Itupu, is from Indonesia and has become our new friend since he learned we lived in Jakarta for a while in 1974. I can always impress the Indonesian staff when I count to ten in Indonesian.
