July 6 Southampton

As we knew, we were awake very early so we caught the 6:05 am shuttle bus to the airport. Check in and security went every smoothly and we were at our gate in plenty of time. Our Flybe airlines flight was fine and we caught a taxi to our hotel, the Blue Keys. It's a lovely, small old hotel with creaky floors and, unfortunately, no air conditioning. England is in the midst of a hot, dry spell which we weren't expecting.

Our dear friends, Peter and Carol, came from their home in Southend to spend the afternoon and evening with us.  We became friends when we were tablemates on the South American cruise 3 years ago.  We had a delightful time catching up in the nice garden of the hotel before heading downtown for drinks at the Grand Cafe in the former Wedgewood Ballroom where the Queen Mother once danced.  Then off to Oxford Street for a lovely dinner alfresco at the Oxford Brasserie.  A very good day.
