July 12 Stockholm, Sweden

We docked at Nynashamn which is about 45 minutes by bus from Stockholm. We had another tour with SPB Tours and this time there were 24 of us, but it was a full sized modern bus so we were very comfortable.  We did a bit of city touring with a few stops, e.g. city hall, a couple of photo stops, the Vasa museum, the Royal palace and old town.  Stockholm is very beautiful and the weather couldn't have been better.  We really enjoyed the Vasa museum. The Vasa was a warship built in 1628 out of wood. Unfortunately it sank on its very first voyage about 1,300 meters from the pier. It had two levels of cannons (64 in all) and was top heavy so a good wind heaved it right over. It stayed on the harbor bottom at about 105 feet until it was salvaged in 1961. About 98% of the original ship is in the museum.

After dinner we wandered the ship for a bit then back to the cabin. Maybe we'll get to the show tomorrow night, or maybe not ...

The days are quite long here with sunrise at 4:36 am and sunset at 10:36 pm.   We don't like to pull the curtains so tight, but if we don't, we won't get much sleep.
